YOUR CHILD'S FIRST DANCE CLASS - WHAT TO EXPECT

A child's first dance class is a milestone worth celebrating! It's normal for both students and parents to feel a mix of excitement and nervousness. At Ignite Dance Academy, we're dedicated to ensuring this inaugural dance experience is not only positive but also exceeds your expectations. To help you and your dancer feel confident on their first day, we've compiled some tips on how to prepare and what to expect.

How to Prepare

  1. Set Expectations: Talk to your child about what will happen in the class. Pump them up by highlighting the fun and learning they'll experience. Discuss what they'll wear and stress the importance of being a good listener. Remind them how proud you'll be of their efforts.

  2. Ensure Rest and Nutrition: A well-rested and nourished child is more likely to have a positive experience. Avoid pushing their limits close to class time. Provide a snack beforehand and consider nap times when selecting a class.

  3. Attire Matters: Come with your child already dressed in their dance clothes. Trust us, it makes the process much smoother!

  4. Arrive Early, but Not Too Early: Aim to arrive 5-10 minutes early. This allows enough time for your child to use the restroom if needed and build excitement for the class.

  5. Welcome at the Door: We'll be there to meet our dancers at the door and help them settle into the class. Let the magic begin!

During the Class

If you notice any hesitation or distress in your child, take the time you need to console and comfort them. While we'll assist, we'll also need to continue with the class.

Parents are welcome to watch their child's first class with us.

Transition to "Drop and Go"

After the first class, Ignite transitions to a "Drop and Go" system. This encourages independence and confidence, which are highly valued at Ignite Dance. The children benefit greatly from this approach, as they learn to navigate new environments, establish routines, and build relationships with their teachers and classmates.

Why Can't I Watch My Child's Dance Class?

Our students thrive in an environment where they can focus solely on their teacher and the lesson. Without parent observers, teachers can achieve more, receive better responses, and build trust and rapport faster. Our classes are both safe and engaging, and your child benefits from every moment.

While your child may find comfort in your presence, it can sometimes hinder their ability to concentrate and learn. They might also be influenced by your reactions, potentially affecting their experience. Additionally, some children may feel uneasy with unfamiliar parents watching.

End of Class

At the end of the class, students will be dismissed back to their parents. Teachers often reward dancers with a sticker for their efforts and fantastic work. Encourage your dancer to practice and share what they've learned. Let them know how proud you are of their achievements!

We're thrilled to share the joy of dance with your family at Ignite Dance Academy and warmly welcome you into our dance community.
